The Pesky Ego

ego vs soul

Dedicated to me, as I have suffered lately due to a stupid ego.

The ego. It can be a real bitch; a false identity of who we think we are, or supposed to be, made up of all the phony beliefs we acquire throughout our lives. It has absolutely nothing to do with our truest nature.

Basically the ego is artificial, unconscious conditioning responsible for the majority of misery in our lives. The crazy monkey mind that rarely shuts up, the irrational thoughts that crave to be followed, and the constant delusional mind chatter which inhibits eternal peace. Humankind is terribly affected by this pesky lil arrogant worm. My ego told me I’m worthless. My ego is disappointed in my life choices. My ego is sure I’d be happier if….

“The Ego is not who you really are. It is your self-image; it is your social mask; it is the role you are playing. Your social mask thrives on approval. It wants control, and it is sustained by power, because it lives in fear.” ~Deepak Chopra

Egos create layers of muck which smother our otherwise luminous and shiny souls. Our spirit is divine, radiant, harmonious bliss. But egos need to feel important so they insist on getting attention by complaining and competing. An ego lusts over self-worth and creates self-imposed separation while enabling us to crumble from disappointment. The fear-based, inner demon feeds off past stories and future worries. It’s a goddamned drama queen!

“The ego says, once everything falls into place, I will find peace. The spirit says, find peace and everything will fall into place.” Damn straight!

It’s a wretched shame that this ego-based unreality has the power to guide us through life if we let it. Deep intuition, however, comes from love and support’s our soul’s journey. Which little voice in your head do you want to listen to?

“A stable functioning ego identity needs an awareness that is not continually overwhelmed by unconscious emotional forces.” ~The Psychology of Buddhist Tantra

Question your thoughts! Just because you think it, doesn’t mean it is so! Do not believe everything you think! Dump out your cup and fill it back up with the loving thoughts you resonate with! How did your ego prevent you from happiness today? The ego is an inseparable part of us so instead of trying to ignore or fight it, learn to control it (way easier said than done!)

Practice yoga! Meditate! Try not complaining for one week. See what happens.

I confess, while feeling down recently, I replaced my yoga with self-sabotage, pity parties, laziness and booze. It was gross. My ego had turned a usual, optimistic, happy-go-lucky girl into a disgusting hot mess. And I allowed it! But…all part of the process!

“LOVE DID NOT CREATE THIS THOUGHT, AND SO IT IS NOT REAL.” ~Gabrielle Bernstein
