Cows are believed to be a symbol of the earth. They give so much, yet ask nothing in return. Cows in India don’t have to work on Mondays! However, their masters get no day of rest. Even homeless cows are supported in temples in India.
Cow pose is an easy and gentle way to warm up the spine. From hands and knees (hands under shoulders, knees under hips), begin arching your back starting with the base of the spine, neck is the last thing to come up, gaze upward, relax the belly, feet flat or toes tucked under, stretch your big open heart through the doorway of your shoulders, roll shoulders back and down and breathe. Yummy! Add cat pose for more deliciousness by moving your spine in the opposite direction, rounding the back, head down, tucking the tailbone under. Practice a few rounds using your breath (inhale cow, exhale cat) and your spine will love you!
